Whilst Sancerre is renowned throughout the world for the quality of its wines, the region also offers a wide range of other gastronomic delights such as the iconic, locally produced goat’s cheese.

The hamlet of Chavignol lies just a stone’s throw from the village of Verdigny-en-Sancerre. It is the birthplace of this very original cheese of which there are around a hundred different producers. The Crottin de Chavignol has enjoyed AOC status since 1976 and its production area covers a large part of the Cher department as well as some of Nièvre and Loiret.

Around 25 producers offer direct sales of their Crottins and several of them also provide guided tours of their goat farms and a presentation of their production methods.

Enjoy a taste of this wonderful cheese and learn more about the savoir-faire of the breeders and cheesemongers who fly the flag for the Crottin de Chavignol.
